To achieve a scientific finding, the researchers need to test their new hypothesis. On the other hand, testing the new hypothesis needs achieving quantitative and qualitative data at the first step and thereafter the raw data needs to be analyzed. Thus, the acceptance or rejection of a hypothesis depends to the methods and techniques by which the researchers gather their data. By increasing our knowledge about appropriate experimental techniques, we will have more chance to get suitable data and precise information to analyze the hypothesis. In using suitable techniques, the experimenter not only has to know the concept of data and the professional ways to achieve them, but also he has to be familiar with the analyzing methods, the scientific basis of the used method, and the merits and drawbacks of the technique. In addition, the factors that intervene with the recorded data (such as noises in electrophysiological records and artifacts in imaging ones) must be completely understood and determined to prevent any kind of errors in data achieving. Thus, each researcher must study the theoretical and practical principles of the used techniques. In this regard, research centers can have important roles by introducing their experimental setups to help young investigators to start their first research steps correctly. In spring 2012, some Iranian research centers and universities collaborated to hold the 2nd Tehran IBRO School. The purpose of the school was to provide an opportunity to acquire knowledge of both theoretical and technical advances in key areas of neuroscience research. The domestic School teachers prepared a handout for the participants which then was reconsidered and upgraded as the present book. Different chapters of this book have been gathered, arranged and written by professional researchers who have adequate experience in using that II Techniques in Neuroscience Research technique in their research. They have tried to explain some useful techniques in the fields of cognitive sciences, electrophysiology, molecular biology and behavioral sciences. We hope the readers can find a suitable knowledge on their favorite techniques and be able to use them in their future investigations. We hereby wish to express our best gratitude to the IBRO organization which has made the initiative and motivation for this approach. We would also like to thank Prof. Tadaharu Tsumoto, the Chair of the IBRO Asia- Pacific Regional Committee (APRC) for all of his helps and efforts in providing the opportunity for us to hold this IBRO School in Tehran. We also thank all the contributors for the preparation of this book, especially Prof. Esteki who had a crucial role in organizing the School. We also express our gratitude to Dr. Hossein Azizi who had an important contribution in preparing the draft of this book and Mr. Seyed Mohammad Ahmadi for editing the Text. We are definite that there are some defects and shortcomings in the first edition of this book which can be reconsidered in the next editions by receiving the valuable comments of the readers
